My Precious Little Folks Quilt

My Little Folks lap quilt is finally finished!  Thanks to Kelly of KelbySews, the host of My Precious quilt-a-long in encouraging quilters to make something with their precious fabrics instead of hoarding setting them aside.  I am so happy that I took the courage to cut into those precious fabrics by Anna Maria Horner.

Well I guess some of you have heard me rambled on about the piecing bit, but in the end it was sooo worth it.  I pieced the half square triangles with solid white.  I was frustrated a little when the points did not match up.  Voile has the tendency to fray if you have to rip out a seam and that happened to me a few times, but please don't let that discourage you from quilting with the voile. 

There are many beautiful quilts made from it and there were no issues so far.   It's just my lack of experience in making half square triangles and this being my first attempt in making a whole quilt with just HSTs.

The back is pieced with the leftovers from the front.

I've hand quilted using white embroidery floss - stitched 1/4" away from the seam on the white areas only as I wanted to preserve the softness of the fabric.  I bound it in Marine from the pastry line and added a thin strip of scraps placed on the top  right of the quilt.

The lightweight fabric makes it the perfect quilt considering the weather over here and I'm sure I've mentioned before how wonderfully soft they are.  It's machine washable too!  My precious lappy measures 54" x 72".

Over all I LOVE this quilt and can't wait for it to get a bit cooler ( it's been raining alot recently...woohoo ) so I can snuggle under it...

Third Finish - Loulouthi Tile Quilt

This fabulous Loulouthi fabric line by Anna Maria Horner has been in my stash eversince it was released sometime last year.  It has been sitting  there for quite awhile until I came across Rachel of Stitched In Color's Loulouthi Tiles pattern recently.  I love her great tile layout as it is not only simple but it showcases the lovely large scale prints! I followed her medium sized pattern for this quilt. 




I paired the Loulouthi with Kona Cotton in Snow for the top.











I used Triflora in Lipstick, ( love the bright color! )  pieced with vertical scrap strips for the backing.  I've used Warm and Natural Cotton batting as I find it suitable with our warm weather.













I handquilted several rows of simple straight lines around each large picture tile block like what Rachel has done on her's and single lines on alternate blocks with Perle Cotton No. 8 using colors that matches the blocks.  I bound it with scraps from the front.

I really love how this one turned out.  It measures 61" x 73", a generous size throw, and finally something for ME!   ;)

Whirligig Quilt

The Whirligig ( Wonky Pinwheel - as I would call it ) block has been on my list of things to do for awhile now. I have always love a fun looking quilt and thought of giving this pattern a try.

I have used this tutorial for the blocks.  It was easy and fast putting them together!  This fabric line is Flora by Lauren & Jessie Jung.  I love this line ever since it came out and thought that the quilt will look sweet in those small to medium scale prints!  I have used Moda Bella Solids in Snow for the background and Lounge Stripe by Heather Bailey for the backing. 

The blocks measured 8 inches each and I've added a 4 inch border to achieve a certain size.  

I hand quilted using perle cotton no. 8 with outline stitches in the background.  I wanted the quilt to be soft thus the quilting was done at a minimal.

This quilt finished at about 54" x 70", a great throw size and it is my second finished quilt for 2012.

2010 Quilts

I would like to show you pictures of what I've been doing over the past two years and this post is about the few quilts which I've completed in 2010.

First off is a lap quilt that measures 45" x 52" which I've made for my hubby's late grandmother, Zaharah.  She turned 90 on the 24th of December, 2010. It was an early birthday gift since I finished this piece in August.

She had/used the quilt for about 7 months until she passed away of old age in late March last year. May her soul rest in peace.  Al-Fatehah. Opah we miss you!

This quilt is now in my aunt-in-law's home and is being well used by her grandchildren.

This baby quilt was made for my sister-in-law, Eila's newborn, Aisyah Zahra in May 2010.

This quilt was done by hand from start to finish. Nordzie, a dear friend of mine - a VERY TALENTED quilter I might add, showed Nahar and I, the steps and techniques used to assemble this quilt.

The 'CatNap' quilt measures 38" square.

Nahar (another good friend) and I purchased our sewing machine about the same time in 2010.  Since both of us were relatively new to quilting back then, we took up a beginner's patchwork and quilting class at our LQS in Ampang.

This is the outcome of it. The sampler quilt measures 40" square. The blocks were done by hand and machine. I used machine to stitch the hearts in one of the blocks as I wanted to learn machine applique.
